From September 2015 to November 2015, Inclusion Europe UK member Mencap surveyed over 300 persons with intellectual disabilities between 18 and 35 year old in order to understand the current state of social inclusion. The results were shocking.

Viltis, Inclusion Europe member from Lithuania, coordinated the project “Young Adults with Intellectual Disability: a European Learning Partnership for a new approach to the family system” (YAID). They released a report on the outcomes of the research operated in the framework of the project in Croatia, Italy, Lithuania and Scotland.

Inclusion Europe has announced its fourth edition of the Round Table on Legal Capacity, which will take place on 27 November in Strasbourg. Legal capacity is an important issue affecting people with intellectual disabilities today.

Many people of all ages and different conditions (elderly, children, persons with disabilities – including persons with mental health problems) live in residential institutions which tend to segregate them from the community. For the purposes of this report, these institutions are not defined primarily by their size but above all by features of “institutional culture” depersonalisation, rigidity of routine, block treatment, social distance, paternalism). Size is merely an indicator - the larger the setting, the fewer the chances are to guarantee individualised, needs-tailored services as well as participation and inclusion in the community.
