Following the result of the UK referendum Mencap sent a message of reassurance to express their loyalty to working with Europe:
“It’s taken a little time to absorb the outcome of the referendum and the consequences. As Maureen Piggott says many are stunned at the result, and Mencap along with others are concerned what the impact may be for people with learning/intellectual disability due to potential implications on anything from legislation to funding.
At this time it is important that the Inclusion Europe membership know that Mencap remain committed to working with our colleagues at Inclusion Europe, despite the referendum result and any perceptions the media has generated about the UK position.”
