The United Kingdom (in short, UK) will have elections in 2015. Then, people will be able to choose politicians that will represent them. Mencap is an organization in the UK that works for people with intellectual disabilities. Mencap is worried that politicians do not know enough about the problems of people with intellectual disabilities. Mencap started a campaign to tell politicians what people with intellectual disabilities want. The campaign is called “Hear my voice.” You can read more about the campaign at this link. |
Ahead of the 2015 General Election in the United Kingdom (UK), Mencap has started a campaign called “Hear my voice,” aimed at informing politicians on the issues that matter to the disability community.
The campaign was prompted by the knowledge that while more than 1.4 million people with intellectual disabilities and their families face issues like poor healthcare, hate crime and social isolation, these matters often do not come up in debates at election time.
Therefore, Mencap wants to help people with intellectual disabilities and their families have their voices heard in the run-up to the elections, and inform politicians on effective means of achieving equality and social inclusion.
